My present body of visual work evolved from a creative cycle where one drawing a day was executed for one hundred consecutive days. After completing the 100 drawings a subset of the drawings were then interpreting in oil. This new project invoIves a similar process. Beginning October 23rd 100 days before the year 2,000, a drawing per day will be created, reflecting feelings and imagery that surface on that particular day. At the same time unique news and events related to the approach of the new millennium will be collected and archived. Beginning the first of the year, an additional ten days will be spent collecting materials (photographs, sound and text) that will serve as source materials to describe the events, mood, and feelings that transpire in the first few days after the turn of the century. It is at this point, January 15, 2000, for exactly one month, that a subset of the black and white pre-2,000 drawings will be translated into oil paintings. During this same period the source audio materials will be incorporated into a musical score to accompany the images. After this one month period the visual materials and music will be combined into some form of multi-media composition. The eventual piece could be (but will not be limited to) a DVD/CDRom, website, or performance piece. The intention is to have the source materials and those created in the first month after the New Year as much as possible direct the shape of the multi-media work. Philip Goetz 09/22/99 return |
